NJDOT Environmental Resources’ mission is to ensure Department projects and practices avoid, minimize, and mitigate impacts to the physical and human environment. This is accomplished by ensuring projects and practices are in full compliance with all applicable Federal and State environmental regulations related to transportation project development.
Environmental stewardship allows us to meet current needs while safeguarding resources for future generations.
Collaborating with Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), the Division identifies environmental sensitivities and constraints to help inform the selection of FHWA and NJDOT-funded grant projects.
The Division works with Local Aid and project sponsors early in the scoping phase to identify environmental constraints and provide technical guidance.
The Division participates in the preparation of environmental documents to assess alternatives to avoid, minimize, and mitigate effects to the environment. The environmental documents are a requirement of project funding ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
The Division ensures that environmental commitments are integrated into project plans and specifications. They attend pre-construction meetings and conduct site visits to monitor activities, verifying that all requirements are met.
Our dedicated team is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to navigate complex environmental regulations. This commitment to excellence enables us to provide expert guidance and support throughout the project lifecycle.
